Getting here

How to reach the Côte d'Azur by air and rail, which airlines fly direct to Nice and how long the drive takes from the airport to each area we cover.

In brief. Nice Côte d'Azur airport is the gateway to every area we cover. Direct flights connect it with London, with Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk and Wrocław in Poland, with Geneva and Zurich and with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Riyadh in the Gulf. From the airport most of the western Riviera, from Antibes and Biot to Valbonne, Mougins and Cannes, is about 30 to 50 minutes by road outside peak hours. Monaco and Menton are about 45 to 50 minutes to the east and Saint-Tropez about an hour and three quarters to the west.

Nice Côte d'Azur airport

The airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Tram lines 2 and B link them free of charge in under three minutes, so check which terminal your airline uses before you set off. A free electric shuttle connects both terminals with the more distant car parks every 15 minutes.

From the terminals, tram line 2 reaches the centre of Nice and the port in under 30 minutes. Nice Saint-Augustin railway station is a seven-minute walk from Terminal 1 by a dedicated walkway (exit door A0). Taxis wait at entrance A3 of both terminals. The airport publishes fixed taxi fares for 2026, excluding supplements: €32 to the centre of Nice, €72 to Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, €85 to Cannes and €95 to Monaco.

Its Polish destinations are Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk and Wrocław; there is no direct flight from Katowice; Kraków is the nearest airport with a direct route for Silesia. The airport also lists Bahrain and Kuwait City among its Middle East destinations; check with the airline whether they are operating in the season you plan to travel.

Other ways in

Nice airport belongs to the Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur group, which also runs Cannes-Mandelieu airport and the Golfe de Saint-Tropez airport at La Môle. For journeys between the airport and Saint-Tropez, Monaco or Saint-Raphaël, the airport points to a regular helicopter service that runs all year as well as to long-distance buses.

By train

The coastal line is the simplest public transport along the coast. From Nice Saint-Augustin, beside the airport, trains run between Cannes, Nice, Monaco and Menton every 15 minutes on weekdays from 5.50 am to 10 pm, then every 30 minutes until 11.30 pm, with later trains at weekends. Trains between Marseille, Toulon and Nice leave about once an hour on weekdays. Nice-Ville, the city's central station, is about 800 metres from the Jean-Médecin stop on tram line 2.

Planning a viewing trip

  1. Check the airline timetable for your dates, since frequencies on the Polish, Gulf and regional British routes change between summer and winter.
  2. Note your arrival terminal; car hire desks and taxi ranks serve both.
  3. Hire a car if your search includes the hills behind Valbonne, Mougins or Vence; the coastal towns are easier by train.
  4. Avoid booking first viewings for the hour after landing; the A8 between Nice and Antibes is slow at peak times.
  5. Tell us your shortlist of areas from the area guides; we arrange viewings so that homes in the same area are seen on the same day.
